How to celebrate Mother’s Day? In Different Ways

More than 50 countries in the world celebrate the second Sunday of the month of May as Mother’s Day. In 2023, Mother’s Day falls on 14th May.

What do You Mean by Mother’s Day?

Mother is our first teacher and our best friend. No matter how old we are, we are always their ‘little child’. Mothers raise us with their love, affection and care since birth. Mother’s Day is a special day for mothers so that they feel themselves special to their children. On this day, children of all ages show their love and respect to their mother.

But don’t forget to love and respect them on the other days of the year. Always remember that one person will never leave you in the ups and downs of your life and she is your mother.

How to celebrate Mother’s Day?

You can celebrate Mother’s Day in different ways.

1. Make Breakfast for her

I am sure that your mother always wakes up earlier than you every day. Does not she make a tasty breakfast every day for you?

Just for one day, I request you to wake up earlier than your mother and make a breakfast for her that she likes. Leave a lovely letter on the breakfast tray telling your mum that you like her most across the world and feel blessed to have her by your own side. Her eyes will be spread wide, and you will see her face with a huge smile.

2. Give her a rest day

Free your mother on Mother’s Day from all the domestic work. Encourage her to rest and relax and to have fun with her friends which she always desired, but she couldn’t have any fun because of the busy lifestyle. I guarantee you that if you do this, your mother will be very very happy.

3. Host a Surprising Party

Arrange a Mother’s Day surprise party at home with the help of your father and siblings. Make your mother’s favourite dishes. She’d be overjoyed since she hadn’t expected something like that. Give her a hug and say that you love her a lot. It will be the most unique and unforgettable day of her life because of your love and care, as well as a sweet surprise.

4. Enjoy a Day With Everyone

Today is your Mother’s Day. So treat her like such a queen and spend a day doing things with her that she’s constantly wished to do. You and your family members can go on a picnic, walk, cook together, look through old family photos, or simply play some fun games at home. You may even have a family movie night at home. Include the finest comedy movies of all time on your list to have a good time with your family.

5. Give her a lovely gift

We all love to get gifts from others. Even if it is not expensive, a little gift can make us happy.

What is the best gift for your mother?

It will be best if you know your mother’s preferences very well. You can gift her what she likes. For my suggestions, you can offer her any of the following as a token of love

  1. Handmade greeting cards
  2. Flower bookie
  3. Jewellery
  4. Handbag
  5. Chocolate set
  6. Magic mug
  7. Wristwatch
  8. Personalised cushion with a loving quote
  9. Perfume set
  10. Teddy Bear
  11. Lighting photo frame
  12. Keychain

6. Give her some attention

Rest and relaxation would be beneficial to your mother’s physical and mental well-being. Make an appointment for her at a neighbouring salon for a spa treatment. On Mother’s Day, treat your mom to a soothing massage, a revitalising facial, a pedicure, and a manicure. It would undoubtedly allow her to get some much-needed me-time while also making her skin sparkle like the sun.

Background of Mother’s Day

Mother and motherhood celebrations may be found in ancient Greece and Rome festivals, which celebrated the Mother goddesses Rhea and Cybele, but the earlier Christian festival, known as the “Mothering Sunday,” is the most obvious modern antecedent for Mother’s Day.

In the UK and in certain areas of Europe this festival, formerly a major event was held in Lent on the fourth Sunday and was traditionally viewed as a time when the faithful returned to their ‘mother church,’ the primary church in their homes.

With the passing of the Mother Sunday custom, children would gift their moms with flowers and other symbols of gratitude to a more secular holiday. This tradition ultimately disappeared before it merged in the 1930s and 1940s with American Mother’s Day.

Mother’s Day in different countries

While Mother’s Day is observed across the world, traditions differ based on the country. For example, Mother’s Day is usually observed in Thailand in August, on the birthday of the current queen, Sirikit.

An alternative Mother’s Day celebration may be seen in Ethiopia, where families meet each autumn to sing songs and eat a huge banquet as part of Antrosht, a multi-day festival celebrating motherhood.

Mother’s Day is still celebrated in the United States by giving presents and flowers to moms and other women, and it is now one of the most important holidays for household spending. Families frequently celebrate by allowing moms to take a day off from tasks such as cooking or other domestic work.

In India, Mother’s Day is celebrated in a different way. In the schools of small children, some cultural programmes are arranged on the occasion of Mother’s Day. Children recite poems, sing songs dedicating to their mothers, give them cards, flowers and gifts and pay their homage by bowing down.
