Subject: concern over regular flooding situation in our Kharui Gram Panchayat No. – 1 during monsoons
Sir,
Through the column of your esteemed daily, I would like to highlight the plight of the residents of Kharui 1 No. Gram Panchayat area due to regular flood situation for the preventive measures of the Irrigation Department.
Near about 5 villages under Kharui 1 No. Gram Panchayat area is affected by the water of the river Rupnarayana every year during the monsoon for being situated in a low-lying area on the bank of the river. The lack of maintenance of the concrete bank, the deplorable drainage system and high tide are responsible for the frequent flooding situation in our locality. As the water of the river swells up for incessant rainfall, it inundates both banks of the river. With the frequent flood, the plight of the people becomes limitless. They are rendered homeless, muddy houses damaged, crops rotten and the flood-affected villages cut off from the rest of the locality. Although the Irrigation Department is well informed about the poor condition of the bank and the drains. They remain indifferent.
To put an end to the untold misery of the local people, I appeal to the Irrigation authority to reform the condition of the bank as well as improve the drainage system in our locality as early as possible to combat frequent flooding situations during monsoons.
Yours Faithfully
Anay Sharma
Thanking you,
